That is a tough question to answer, but the simplest of answers is simply, to communicate with your peers, and give them the ability to freely communicate back to the rest of the world.
At this link: Internet and democratic change – Main session, there are several videos of great importance to everyone. It applies to everyone. They discuss the basic rights of any people, in any nation, in every far reaching corner of the world. Two of the videos that caught my attention the most, were the Jacob Appelbaum and Stephan Urbach talks. They go into detail, the need for freedom of speech, the right to privacy, and the need to be free from oppression by our own governments.
At a minimum, watch those two videos. If you value your voice, your opinion, and your right to voice that opinion in the opposition of anyone, with the right to keep those opinions private and among your own peers, then watch those two videos.
