Brad Smith Fund

Social-Engineer.org and @humanhacker are trying to help raise money for Brad Smith. Brad (to those who run in the Defcon circles, he’s known as theNurse) recently suffered a stroke. This has left him in a coma. To help his family raise money for medical costs and whatever they may need while he is in this state, you can add the following button to your site by copying and pasting the code in the box below.

<a href="http://www.social-engineer.org/bradsmithdonation/" target="brad">
<img src="http://www.social-engineer.org/images/brad.png" alt="brad" title="Donate to the Brad Smith fund. All donations will be forwarded to Brad's family to help with medical expenses." style="position:fixed; right:0px; top:30%;" /></a>

This button will link to the Social-Engineer.org page with a donate button to PayPal. All money will be forwarded to Brad’s family. You can see an example of how this button will look and work on the right side of my site’s pages. If you run a wordpress or CMS package of any kind, add it to your footer template to show on all pages, just before the las body tag.

Battlefield 3 Windows 7 Install FIX

So, with Battlefield 3 out, there are some issues with the Origin client. Specifically for windows 7 SP1 people with a fully patched system, the game will not install with an error that says “must be signed on as administrator” which is totally bunk, but anyway, I digress.

Ok. So for everyone having issues with Windows 7 64 bit. Pre-setup, go to battlelog.battlefield.com, install the browser plugin(can’t launch or play the game without it). Then download origin. Now, before installing, right click it, go to the compatibility tab and the click change for all users. Set it to Vista SP2. Click ok, then run the installer. The game will then be down-loadable under windows 7, no more “have to be signed in as administrator” crap.

Note, this is a fix for 64 bit editions of Windows 7. If you have 32-bit Windows 7, or Home edition, try changing it to Windows XP SP3. Some people have mentioned this does not work on 32-bit editions, so try the XP SP3 method. Launching the game might require right clicking the icon in Origin vs double clicking as well. See here for further details – http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7663139.page

For vista users only, make sure you have at least SP2 and this patch, KB971512 installed. There is a graphics issue for Direct-X and better GPU performance that this patch fixes.

My install went through fine after this and game is awesome! Hope that helps anyone else out there looking to fix the “must be logged in as admin” issues under windows 7.
